Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition releases tomorrow on Nintendo Switch worldwide. If you haven’t played the original or are curious about the release, read this. According to a detailed report from video game tech analysis site Digital Foundry, we have the confirmed resolution and frame rate for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition in both docked and handheld modes. When docked, the game runs at a maximum of 720p and can drop to 504p in certain conditions. When played in portable mode or on the go in handheld mode, the game runs at a maximum of 540p and can drop to 378p. When it comes to frame rate, the game targets 30fps and maintains that for the most part. This is a big upgrade over Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which had regular frame rate dips. You can check out the full video below from Digital Foundry comparing it to the Nintendo Wii original and highlighting the various visual upgrades:

While the resolution is lower than expected given that this is still based on the Nintendo Wii original, the overall image is a lot better than Xenoblade Chronicles 2 thanks to the lack of the over aggressive sharpening filter used in the latter. Performance has been excellent in my time with the game as well. It is going to be interesting to see if any patches arrive to address the minor frame rate dips in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition releases on May 29 for Nintendo Switch.
