Sony just revealed various PS5 backward compatibility details through a PlayStation support page. This reveals a list of unsupported PS4 games that will not be playable on PS5 and confirms that the overwhelming majority of PS4 games will be playable on PS5. Some games will benefit from higher or smoother frame rate as well. Sony confirms that some features available on PS4 for a game might not work on PS5. Barring this, Sony confirmed that PS4 games on PS5 can be played with the DualSense, DualShock 4, and other licensed third-party controllers.

PS5 backward compatibility limitations for PS4 games

The Share menu can’t be displayed on PS5 but you can take screenshots using the DualShock 4 or DualSense controller Share or Create buttons respectively. The HD camera is not compatible with PS4 games and you will need to use the PlayStation camera through the Camera adaptor for that. PS4 tournaments are not supported on PS5 and In-Game Live and PS4 second screen app or game companion apps are not supported on PS5.

It is great to see Sony finally confirm backward compatibility details for the PS5. What isn’t great is that Sony still hasn’t announced PS5 details for India.

PS5 India release date

While Sony is yet to reveal if India gets the PS5 the same time as the rest of the world, its track record here has been pretty bad with the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Sony doesn’t currently hold the PS5 trade mark either. It remains to be seen when Sony will announce the PS5 India release date.

PS5 India launch availability: will all stores have it?

Given that only six stores have the PS5 listed, it’s safe to say that Sony has a preferred partners list and they’re on it. No independent retailers appear to have any PS5 listings at the moment. It will be interesting to see if more stores stock the PS5 at launch in India. While we have asked Sony if it would be exclusive to these outlets, there’s been no reply to our request for comment just yet. With supplies expected to be limited, we don’t expect most Indian game stores to stock the PS5 officially at launch in the country.

The PS5 launches worldwide beginning November 12. Hopefully a PS5 India release date is announced soon.
