The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails on PC was actually released back in 2021 with support for just Japanese. That version will be updated next week for the West to add in English subtitles and a dual audio option. Having tested the PC version on Steam Deck, I was curious to see how it would compare to the console versions, and how PH3 would approach the PC conversion like it has with its prior amazing Falcom releases. In my PC and Steam Deck review of The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails, I’m going to focus on the PC version. Read my thoughts on the game and the console versions here.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails PC graphics options
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a very light game on PC, and as such it doesn’t have too many graphics options. You can adjust display mode (windowed, borderless, fullscreen), resolution (up to 4K), toggle v-sync, use MSAA (off to 8x), and use anisotropic filtering (1x to 16x). One thing to note is, while not an option, the PC version’s draw distance is a lot higher than both consoles.
While not a graphics option, the turbo mode on PC offers more options like a faster multiplier while it is fixed on console. The PC version also has auto-save which isn’t on consoles. I couldn’t test the ultra-wide support, but the port mentions that option on the store page. Speaking of the store page, make sure to use the HQ texture pack.
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails PC control options
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails has multiple button prompt options for using a controller including the ability to force button prompts for a specific one instead of auto selecting based on the controller used. On Steam Deck, I forced it to display PlayStation prompts, but it also supports Xbox, Nintendo, Stadia, and Steam Deck prompts in addition to keyboard and mouse button prompts. Speaking of keyboard and mouse prompts, The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails has mouse and keyboard support with it working quite well. The mouse support aims to feel like older Falcom games on PC. I didn’t use this much, but it is an option.
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails PC performance – frame rate and resolution
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails runs flawlessly on Steam Deck. It is capped to 60fps though. That isn’t a problem per say given the age of the original game, but it is worth noting because PH3’s Falcom conversions usually allow for higher frame rates. The reasoning for 60fps is explained here. While the game itself looks good across the board, the highlight of the PC version is the draw distance. Even in the combat tutorial, you can tell the draw distance is low on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on the beach while it is a lot better on PC.
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails on Steam Deck
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is Steam Deck Verified already. It was for a while now actually, but it runs flawlessly with no change required. The gameplay is 16:10 using up the full screen, but the menus are 16:9 with black bars. There isn’t anything else to say for The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails on Steam Deck because of how perfect it feels on the system. This is definitely my favorite way to play it thanks to the faster turbo mode, draw distance improvements, and crisp visuals on Steam Deck.
Should you buy The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails on PC?
As a PSP game originally, I enjoyed The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails on Steam Deck for a handheld experience. The improvements over the console version mentioned above make it the best version, but in this specific game’s case, the console versions aren’t too far behind like with how the Crossbell games were on PS4 compared to PH3’s releases. If you want to play The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails on PS4 (or PS5) or Switch, those are still great. It is just that the PC version is better.
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails’ PC version is another excellent PH3 conversion, and it is amazing on Steam Deck. It has fun gameplay, superb music, and feels great despite its age. This is an easy recommendation for Falcom fans.
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails releases on September 22 in Europe and September 19 in North America for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store) version will be updated in time for September 19 with English support. Check it out on PC via Steam.
