While Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 saw a staggered release across platforms, Inti Creates’ brand new 2D action platformer Grim Guardians: Demon Purge has arrived simultaneously worldwide on Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, Xbox consoles, PS5, and PS4. I’ve been playing it for review on PS5, Switch, and Steam Deck. While I’ve covered the game itself in my PS5 review, I wanted to highlight how Grim Guardians: Demon Purge plays on Switch and Steam Deck as well. I’ll be covering platform-specific features and more in this Grim Guardians: Demon Purge Switch and Steam Deck review.
Grim Guardians: Demon Purge Nintendo Switch features
On Nintendo Switch, Grim Guardians: Demon Purge has support for HD Rumble and also co-op play with a single Joy-Con each. Inti Creates has been great with supporting Switch-specific features, and having single Joy-Con co-op support makes the Switch version even better if you want to play with a friend on the go. The HD Rumble is implemented better than the default rumble on other platforms as of this writing as well. Visually, Grim Guardians: Demon Purge looks excellent on the OLED screen in handheld mode, and it runs mostly fine. I ran into a few performance issues, but nothing game breaking in my time with it before the day one patch hit.
Grim Guardians: Demon Purge PC features and graphics options
On PC, just like the PS5 version, Grim Guardians: Demon Purge supports up to 120fps gameplay. I tested this with my Steam Deck with the official docking station on my 1440p monitor. It ran and looked great. One other feature I wanted to highlight is Steam Remote Play Together. Since Grim Guardians: Demon Purge only supports local co-op, Remote Play Together let me invite a friend to join my game all on Steam Deck. We beat two levels without issues during my testing with it. It also has Steam Cloud support. This is something you assume is going to be included, but Dragon Marked for Death from Inti Creates is still missing Steam Cloud support. I hope it can be added in the future.
Grim Guardians: Demon Purge on Steam Deck
I did all my PC testing for Grim Guardians: Demon Purge on Steam Deck when plugged into my 1440p display or on the Steam Deck itself. I had no issues with the game at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is Steam Deck Verified in the near future.
Should you play Grim Guardians: Demon Purge on Switch or PC and Steam Deck?
If you enjoy Inti Creates games and want a new 2D action platformer, this one is well worth your time. It is on the easier side initially, but I enjoyed playing it across platforms for review. Hopefully my Grim Guardians: Demon Purge Switch and Steam Deck review helped you decide if you should grab Inti Creates’ newest release on Nintendo’s hybrid system or Valve’s portable.
