With the Death Stranding release date of November 8, Hideo Kojima took to the stage at TGS 2019 to show off an extended look at the PS4 exclusive’s gameplay. Clocking in at around 49 minutes, Death Stranding appears to have more in common with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild than Kojima’s past works like Metal Gear Solid. This is far from a bad thing depending on your gameplay preferences. That said, the emphasis on traversal and exploration complete with a durability mechanic (for your shoes, not weapons) and sinister beasts to battle are some interesting elements to contend with.
In addition to this, Death Stranding features varied landscapes along with slick menus and vehicles aplenty. During the gameplay session, Kojima showed off different ways of getting around such as a bike, hijacking a truck from an enemy camp and sledding across terrain. There are even safe houses and springs in the game world that let you recoup after intense encounters. Check it out here.

Previously, Kojima Productions released a story trailer for the PS4 exclusive. Officially known as the Death Stranding Briefing Trailer, it consists of cinematics aplenty, it sheds light on Death Stranding’s story, character motives, and more. You’ll don the role of Sam who is tasked with reconnecting the USA or UCA as it’s known in the game.
It features Amelie (Lindsey Wagner) who appears to be the leader of the US. Sam (Norman Reedus) as well as Die-Hardman (Tommie Earl Jenkins) also play a part in it with the latter running Bridges, an organisation seeking to reconnect the nation.
