At Square Enix’s E3 showcase in 2021, the company revealed a new series of Final Fantasy releases in the form of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series. This brought a localized version Final Fantasy III’s original 2D release outside Japan for the first time and after debuting on PC and mobile, the series of games has hit PS4 and Nintendo Switch worldwide. The PS4 and Switch versions include many new features including a soundtrack option. This guide will cover how to change the soundtrack in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster on Nintendo Switch and PS4 to the original or the newly arranged music.

How to change the soundtrack in Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster on Nintendo Switch and PS4

This applies to every Final Fantasy game included in the bundle, but you need to change the settings in each game to use the soundtrack of your choice. Follow the steps below to change the soundtrack in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster on Nintendo Switch and PS4:

  • When you launch the game, select ‘Options’.
  • Choose ‘Configuration’.
  • Change the BGM Type here from ‘Arrangement’ (new Pixel Remaster music) to ‘Original’ for the original soundtrack. You can change it back if you prefer the new songs like I do in most cases.

Will the original soundtrack be added to Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster on PC and mobile?

As of this writing, there is no information on patches for existing versions of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series. Hopefully it does get patched in, because more options are always better.
