Back in February last year, SNK released the new version of The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match on the PS Store for PS4 worldwide following its debut on PC. Read my review of it here. The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match is the definitive version of The King of Fighters 2002 featuring the most characters in the series and rollback netcode. Today, SNK and Code Mystics have released a major update on Steam bringing in online lobbies and spectator mode. This follows the update for The King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match Final Edition. Watch the PS4 launch trailer for The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match below:

The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match online lobbies and spectator mode for PS4

As of now, The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match has online lobbies and spectating mode on Steam only. Hopefully the update comes to PS4 in the near future.

The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match online modes

The online modes and features included are below:

  • Rollback netcode: KOF 2002 UM features updated rollback netcode that greatly reduces online lag during matches. Players are able to tweak settings in order to improve their online experiences.
  • QOL online versus features: KOF 2002 UM includes online features that allow players to study their matches and learn from their mistakes. These include the ability to re-watch one’s 10 most recent online matches, options that enable win/loss counters, and cooldowns to prevent re-matching after a quick bout.
  • Rank Match: Results are shared and ranked online.
  • Player Match: Set your own versus battle settings.

The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match is out now on PS4, PC, and Xbox via backward compatibility (this version lacks the new features and online modes).
