After a near 10 year hiatus, the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series is back with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 for the Nintendo Switch. Announced at the Game Awards in December 2018, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 (or Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order as its officially known) is being developed by Nioh and Ninja Gaiden studio Team Ninja and published by Nintendo. Much like past games, it’s an action role-playing game in the vein of Diablo with this one in particular being influenced by Diablo 3. Here’s everything else you need to know.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 release date

The Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 release date is July 19 internationally. Due to Nintendo not having an India presence, the game won’t be available here officially, though much like every Nintendo published title, it should find its way to store shelves via parallel imports.

The Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 download size is 13.2GB if you plan on buying it via the Nintendo eShop. You can preload it right now as the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 preload date was July 11.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 gameplay

Like previous entries in the franchise, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 sports an isometric camera and real-time combat. There are gameplay bonuses depending on the heroes in your squad and there are optional challenges as well. And yes, there’s local and online coop too. You can check out gameplay impressions below:

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 price

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 for the Nintendo Switch is $60 (around Rs. 4,200). In India however, you’ll be paying Rs. 5,000 if you want it ‘officially’ much like Super Mario Maker 2.

Is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC?

While it might seem that Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, this may not be the case in the future. Reason being, past Marvel Ultimate Alliance games were available on a host of consoles and PC. With Marvel taking video games seriously through its partnerships with Sony for Spider-Man PS4 and Iron Man VR, it’s unlikely that the company would leave money on the table by not releasing the game on PS4 and Xbox One as well as PC unless the game has been funded by Nintendo. That said, all parties involved have held their cards close regarding this. For now if you want to play Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, you’ll need a Nintendo Switch.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 season pass price and release date

Like most modern day games, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 has a season pass with a price of $20 (around Rs. 1,400). It consists of three DLC packs involving characters and content from the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Marvel Knights. You can’t purchase these packs separately.

Do I need to play Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 before Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3?

No you don’t. This is because Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 doesn’t carry any of the plot forward from the past two games. You can jump into this without playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2. Even if you needed to play either game before getting Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 you can’t. Reason being, they were published by Activision for the last generation of consoles. The company did bring them back ever so briefly on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC but was lambasted over their poor quality and were quitely removed from sale. Furthermore, neither game is playable via Xbox One backwards compatibility. A tragic situation for anyone interested in seeing how the series has evolved over the years.
