Touken Ranbu Warriors from Koei Tecmo, DMM, Omega Force, and Ruby Party was originally confirmed for just Nintendo Switch in the West, but was recently announced for PC via Steam as well. It has now released on Steam, and I’ve been playing it on Steam Deck alongside the Nintendo Switch version for review. For my Touken Ranbu Warriors Steam Deck performance review, I’m going to cover how the game in its current state runs and looks on Steam Deck.
Touken Ranbu Warriors PC requirements
The Touken Ranbu Warriors PC requirements are similar to the Samurai Warriors 5 PC requirements. The game is very light and I’d recommend you try the demo even if your PC doesn’t meet the requirements. You likely will have no trouble running this at 60fps even on older hardware.

Touken Ranbu Warriors PC graphics options
Touken Ranbu Warriors is a bare-bones PC version compared to Samurai Warriors 5 that had a lot of options for the graphics in its Steam release. For Touken Ranbu Warriors, you can adjust the resolution (up to 4K), change display mode, and adjust the graphics quality between low, medium, and high. There are no other graphics options. There is also no in-game frame limiter. The game is capped at 60fps as well as expected given the prior Warriors games from Omega Force.
Touken Ranbu Warriors PC control options
Touken Ranbu Warriors supports controllers and keyboard and mouse for gameplay. This applies to menus and gameplay. You can remap controls as well. On Steam Deck, the game works perfectly (control wise) out of the box for me with button prompts and everything working as it should.
Touken Ranbu Warriors Steam Deck performance – frame rate and resolution
Unfortunately, in its current state, Touken Ranbu Warriors has issues on Steam Deck just like Samurai Warriors 5 on Steam Deck. The games work fine on Windows 10, but the current build has frame pacing issues on Steam Deck regardless of the 5 different compatibility versions of Proton I tested. Some of them have it running without videos, but experimental bleeding edge or GE-Proton7-16 seem to work best right now with the game hovering at around 58fps. Capping the frame rate to 30 using the in-built Steam Deck limiter results in even more unstable performance. Hopefully Valve or Koei Tecmo can improve this in the future. Even on a dated laptop, the game runs as it should, but it isn’t perfect on Steam Deck right now while other Koei Tecmo games like Atelier Ryza 2 work great.
Touken Ranbu Warriors Switch vs Steam Deck
Touken Ranbu Warriors on Switch targets 30fps and looks relatively good compared to other Musou games on the platform. The performance is also multiple times better than Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity that remains one of the worst-performing recent Musou games. On Steam Deck, it looks a lot better with higher quality visuals, draw distance, and higher resolution compared to the Switch handheld version. Load times are also better. It is unfortunate that the current PC build has frame pacing issues on Steam Deck though. Hopefully this can be fixed. If you are wondering whether Touken Ranbu Warriors is good on Switch right now, it definitely is. Read my review of the Switch version here.
Should you play Touken Ranbu Warriors on Steam Deck and PC?
Right now, the answer is yes only if you can tolerate frame pacing issues. The PC version of Touken Ranbu Warriors runs great even on older laptops running Windows, but the current build has issues on Steam Deck. Hopefully Valve can work on improving how Touken Ranbu Warriors runs on Steam Deck in the near future. This will easily be the best version of the game when that happens. Right now, there’s a big caveat sadly. I’d recommend trying the demo to see how you find the performance issues because it is a good representation of the full game on Steam.
