With half the year done, it feels like 2023 is the best year for games since 2017. I can’t recall the last time I’ve had so many game of the year contenders release in the first few months, but here we are. Highlights include Street Fighter 6, Final Fantasy 16, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Octopath Traveler II, Hi Fi Rush, and more. Last month also saw Rain Code finally release from Spike Chunsoft, which is a game I was looking forward to playing. July 2023 begins with Trails into Reverie (Hajimari no Kiseki in Japan), Atelier Marie Remake, and more release. As usual, I’ll update this if any other Japanese games releasing in July 2023 are announced once I’m back from my vacation next week.
